Gardens

DSCF7781The Gardens of the Rosary, located under the Basilica, were designed in Bossan’s plan to isolate this place of prayer from the chaos of the city.
The Door of the Lions, giving access to the crypt, was meant to be the main access to the Basilica in Bossan’s original project. In the 19th century, the gardens contained stations representing the different mysteries of the rosary.
At the bottom of the gardens, you can find the Maison de Lorette, where Pauline Jaricot lived. She was a great figure of the Propagation of Faith and the founder of the Universal Living Rosary Association in the 19th century.
These gardens offer a very nice stroll on the way from the Vieux Lyon area to the Basilica.
