With 1.5 million visitors each year, Fourvière is one of the busiest sanctuaries and tourist sites in France. Fore more than a thousand years The Virgin Mary has been honoured here.

The Basilica of Fourvière is a typical and outstanding example of the 19th century religious architecture.

Every day several religious services are held in Fourvière and the team of Chaplains and volunteer workers is on hand to welcome you personally.
There is a Mass in English on the 1st Sunday of each month at 09h30 in Mary's Chapel (on the right of the main entrance).

Guided tours explain the Basilica, its architecture and its decoration – often intensely symbolic. There is also the famous "visite insolite/Mystery visit" ending high up on the roof!

The Sanctuary includes the Museum of Religious Art which presents the Treasure of Fourvière and at different times each year other exhibitions of religious significance.
