With more than 2 000 years of history, the site of Notre-Dame de Fourvière offers an exceptional heritage in the center of Lyon.

Walking in the footsteps of Lugdunum’s first inhabitants, marvelling at the riches of the basilica, praying, meeting, giving thanks and reaching for the heavens in the face of a breathtaking panorama. Every visitor to the Notre-Dame de Fourvière site has a unique cultural, tourist and spiritual experience, and leaves with a lasting impression.

This basilica is well worth the climb up the hill. There’s a breathtaking view of the city and the basilica dedicated to Mary is incredible.

A Marian sanctuary open to all

The Notre-Dame de Fourvière site welcomes over 60 different nationalities every year. Pilgrims and tourists from all over the world come to discover a site rich in history and to enjoy a spiritual experience.

The sanctuary is also open to the most vulnerable. Every afternoon, a helpline welcomes those in need.


As part of the Nouvel Élan project, people are at the heart of the project:

  • Co-hosting with ALGED at the Pavillon d’accueil
  • Solidarity catering with Apprentis d’Auteuil,
  • Hosting young people on civic service,
  • Creation of a home for young people…

A cultural hot spot

Fourvière’s cultural offering is the link between tourism and spirituality. It offers a new way of looking at art, in all its forms, through exhibitions, concerts and conferences, in keeping with the spirit of the place.

Recognized as an emblematic tourist site in the Auvergne Rhône-Alpes region, and voted the region’s favorite tourist site by local residents in 2018, Notre-Dame de Fourvière is one of France’s most famous religious buildings.
