The feast of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary at Fourvière takes place on August 14 and 15.

This feast commemorates the Virgin Mary’s entry into the fullness of eternal life. For Catholics, the Mother of God’s life symbolizes the Christian ideal. She is the example to follow. Because she was so close to her Son, she is also the Mother of all men, attentive to each and every one. That’s why Christians love to pray to her, and know that she listens to them.
At Fourvière, a torchlight procession takes place on the evening of the 14th, bringing together hundreds of pilgrims every year.
